Welcome to Aragorn's Site!
Much Thanks to my Host, TTK!

After TTK moved the server to a the new faciliity, I've noticed that I, personaly, cannot access the site much, with the bandwidth limiting thingy.  Now, this probably means nothing to anyone, as everyone who botheres to access this site knows pretty well by now that i hardly update this.  I one day hope to change that, but today is not that day.

To the right of this is TTK's announcement.

Go read it.

You've read it now, right?
Good.

I've unlinked much of the graphics on this site (though some of my graphics were under 1 kilobyte in sizes, some were as large as almost 4 kilobytes.).  However, his bandwidth limiting thing is mean; I often cannot load text only pages -- not load slowly, mind you, not load at all.

Bandwidth is bloody expensive.

At this point I'm glad I didn't finish my grand blog scheme and use TTK's poor server to host an art site for a couple friends, and have still more people depend on this for a blog site.

In the mean time, I'm removing much of the clutter here. I've been meaning to get to a new start anyhow.

Web/Mail/Shell Server Update

I just installed a new server in a Pacific Online colocation facility a few days ago, and have been working on weeding out the bugs. This morning I discovered that a mail misconfiguration was preventing some users from receiving email -- oops! The fix was pretty simple, but it took me a couple of hours to figure out what needed to get fixed.

Pacific Online charges according to bandwidth use. As long as the server transfers less than 5GB/month (max of in or out), I only get charged $120/month. Any more than that, though, and the price goes up quite a bit.

I've implemented bandwidth throttling for web traffic, so that Hardpoint-related traffic can go as fast as it likes (since this is what should make the server pay for itself), but the various private web pages also hosted there are limited to 12KB/s outgoing (which should be plenty). That won't prevent users from running up the bill with ftp, scp, or p2p transfers though; I need to figure out ipfw rules for throttling those, and in the meantime I'll ask them politely to please curb their bandwidth use to a hundred megabytes a month.

Somehow, This is best viewed with Mozilla, and at least @ 800x600.
Not quite sure how that happend (I happen to prefer Safari), but we'll just have to live with it.
May not even be properly viewable by 'Lynx'
